Leadership plays a huge role in my internship. I express all four areas of leadership; supportive, directive, participative, and achievement-orientated. Being a Site Staffing Specialist working in recruiting and staffing, I give a high level of consideration to candidates/applicant's needs in providing questions that they may have, advising them where they are at in the process, and leadership in conducting interviews. I work in a team setting and no one takes individual credit for accomplishments. We all work together giving each other guidance, direction, while following the rules and procedures in our work. We all consult daily through emails, phone conversations, conference calls, and seminars considering everyone's opinions and suggestions. Our team has done very well at our site and has accomplished our goals and attaining a reduction in our site's turnover rate and filling our positions with the top best candidates that we can recruit for.
I have two supervisors at the Corporate office and have weekly meetings with my immediate supervisor keeping her informed and updated on Bagdad's site position openings, questions and concerns. I have been able to build a strong working business relationship with both my co-workers, team, and supervisors. My leadership skills has been able to help improve our work methods, and I feel very lucky and passionate about my work. It allows me to portray my strengths and help people build a better life. I feel that it's very rewarding making a real difference in the lives of many people.
The wonderful thing about Human Resource is that I directly touch the lives of people; that I can see the difference my efforts make. My career is very much anchored in the philosophy of equity and social justice -- the idea that all people should be treated fairly. I believe I have the skills, education/training to succeed in this field. Personal integrity is essential for maintaining mutual trust and credibility are all key components to leadership. I feel I utilize cognitive skills (analyzing problems), interpersonal skills (developing relationships/team work), and technical skills (learning the processes and services) working in our office. Our office has strong individuals with leadership skills from our supervisors, employees, and direct HR Managers that are knowledgeable with diverse backgrounds to help build all of our strengths and help us grow in our office. So far, I've been very pleased working in this line of work!
